Great food for Reptiles, Wild Birds, Cage Birds and Small Mammals.Mealworms
are the larvae of the Tenebrio Molitar Beetle. Their diet is vegetarian
which means they are safe to feed to animals and birds without passing
on potentially fatal diseases, which may be present in offal-fed larvae
such as maggots. They are a clean, odourless and relatively inexpensive food, rich in protein and easy to store.
Mealworms Uses and ApplicationMealworms are an extremely popular livefood for cage birds and wild birds. They consist of 50-60% crude protein and because of their pure cereal/vegetable diet they are an extremely safe food to use. Mealworms are a tasty treat that birds find irresistible. Many species, especially robins and blackbirds, love these additive-free treats, which have all the goodness of live mealworms but not the moisture. Sprinkle as they are, or rehydrate by soaking in warm water for a few minutes. Supplied in re-sealable bags. Store in a cool, dry place and use year round. Most garden birds will eat many different foods. Here's a quick guide to the birds that particularly enjoy this food, though other species may also enjoy it too: Blackbird, Robin, Blackcap, Song Thrush, Dunnock, Starling, House Sparrow, Wren and of course, chickens!
** Please be aware that if you are feeding mealworms to hedgehogs, ensure they have a balanced diet as well (Hedgehog specific biscuits, e.g Ark Wildlife hedgehog mix, cat biscuits and/or wet cat/dog food). Recent research has revealed that people feeding large amounts of mealworms to hedgehogs is causing metabolic bone disease, which ultimately means they cannot walk and are in pain because of this. Please do not feed any hedgehogs you care for just on mealworms, small amounts will suffice along with the aforementioned hedgehog mix and/or cat/dog food **** Same day dispatch if ordered by midday! **
